New Product: Tracii XL 2.0

This new USB 2.0 I2C interface is based on a state-of-the-art hardware platform which will serve as the base for a number of innovative products for the next years.

It complements our proven and flexible Tracii XL hardware. If you buy Tracii XL 2.0 now, you'll get more than 6 times less USB latency during all USB to I2C transfers, higher resolution of A/D sampling and a larger A/D sample memory.

Tracii XL 2.0 features to come are:

  • An adjustable voltage output is already included in the hardware and will be accessible with the next release of I2C Studio.

And here is even more good news:

  • Tracii XL 2.0 is available for EUR 1100, i.e for the current price of Tracii XL.

Price cut for Optii

Optii, our I2C galvanic isolator and level shifting device, is now available for only EUR 195.

I2C Studio Update

Version 2.3.2 of I2C Studio has been released. You can download it here.

  • Now you can take full advantage of your 64 bit technology. The latest release of I2C Studio contains support for both, 32 and 64 bit Microsoft Windows systems including all the necessary drivers for our USB products. If you run a 64 bit Windows, the corresponding drivers will be automatically installed with the setup procedure.

I2C Fast-Mode Plus

Fast-Mode Plus is a new I2C standard introduced by NXP (formerly Philips Semiconductors) to allow for higher communication speed without the need for extra speed negotiation.

Please see www.i2c-bus.org/Fast-mode-Plus/ for details.

While the specification for FM+ isn't fully available yet, Tracii XL 2.0 is compliant with all known parameters of this new standard.

In particular, FM+ introduces higher termination to compensate for bus capacitance and to improve signal quality.

This means that devices need to be able to sink up to approx. 30 mA during low phases. Tracii XL 2.0 can handle up to 200 mA sink current easily.

Technical note: Understanding licenses for telos products.

One of the most frequently asked support questions is about how licensing of our products is implemented.

In contrast to many other approaches, the I2C Studio can be freely downloaded and installed. There is no limit on the number of copys you can install at your site.

Every installation allows for free evaluation by choosing the "dummy device" which is always available.

If a Connii, Connii MM, Tracii XL or Tracii XL 2.0 is connected to your computer, I2C studio queries the hardware to check which features and licenses are available. The options you can choose from I2C Studio depend on these licenses.

For instance, you will only be able to select the tracer mode of a connected Tracii XL if you've purchased this option. Otherwise, only the Master Mode is available.

So what about service contracts?

With each purchase you receive a one-year-service contract for free. A service contract allows you to use new software releases with your hardware. In other words you will not be able to use software releases which were published after your service contract has expired. This is checked for each hardware individually.

In order to benefit from future improvements and free technical support, we strongly recommend to keep the service contracts up-to-date for all I2C products you own. This assures that you are always able to download and use new software releases with all your interfaces.

Please note that there is - of course - no restriction on using software which was available for your product at the time of purchase, i.e. you can continue to use the version which was shipped with your product or downloaded under a service contract infinitely.

You can find all previous releases of the I2C Studio in the download section of our website.

Long term commitment

Our first I2C interface, Tracii was launched in early 1998. Tracii 400 followed a couple of months later and is still available for regular orders. We occasionally receive questions about long term availability of our products because many customers have built complex infrastructures based on these items.

Our policy is to establish long term relation ships with our customers by doing the best we can to keep mature products available for those customers who rely on them. Even if an item should no longer exist in our shop, it is most likely that we still have it in stock - feel free to ask.

telos has developed a new and generic bus control and monitoring platform which allows us to quickly develop all kinds of custom bus applications ranging from I2C to SPI JTAG and other proprietary serial communication systems.

If you are in need for such a solution, simply give us a call.
